Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Develops construction designs and costs for installation of electrical and fiber facilities using standard engineering practices in accordance with RUS and NESC specifications.  Works with members, public officials, contractors, line crews and customer service personnel to ensure efficient and cost-effective projects and work flow.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consults with consumers and personnel in other departments as needed to discuss design plans, calculate estimates for cost of construction as well as line retirements.
  • Utilizes NISC to produce electric and fiber staking sheets, list of materials and cost estimates for construction by REC or contractors.
  • Responsible for ensuring that necessary easements and permits are obtained.
  • Assists with development of construction policies, procedures, budgets, work plans and studies.
  • Works with property owners, developers, contractors and permitting agencies to provide options for facilities in an efficient manner.
  • Develop new construction units, assembly drawings and costs as needed. 
  • Proficient in staking fiber optic facilities for member and co-op use, and new tools, assemblies and procedures required for their construction by REC or contractor personnel.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a high school diploma with an Associates Degree in engineering preferred.
  • A journeyman lineman certification preferred.
  • Understanding of transmission and distribution standard construction methods and designs utilizing engineering software.
  • Must have completed an approved staking engineering certificate program or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret maps, surveys, plats, engineering plans, and electrical drawings.
  • Must be highly efficient and detail oriented.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of REC’s safety manual, policies, procedures, service rules and regulations.
  • Must possess or obtain a Colorado Notary Public certification.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal verbal and written skills to communicate clearly with consumers and coworkers of all levels of technical understanding.
  • Must be able to operate computers, staking equipment, communication and standard office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Duties are performed inside and outside in difficult terrain.
  • Irregular hours included nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • Must be able to perform duties as stated above.
  • Activities are performed driving, sitting, and walking.
