Engineering Intern

We are seeking an Engineering Intern to support our Engineering and Operations teams through technical analysis, system planning, project research, and documentation. This hands-on internship offers real-world exposure to electric distribution systems, utility operations, and cooperative principles, with projects tailored to individual interests.

Pay: $15.16 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a summer time intern position. Negotiable work period to begin mid-May through mid-August depending on school schedule.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Intern will support the Engineering and Operations teams of the electric cooperative with technical analysis, system planning, project research and follow-up, and documentation. This internship provides hands-on exposure to electric distribution systems, utility operations, and cooperative principles in a real-world utility environment.  Projects and assignments will be somewhat tailored to individual interests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist engineers with electric distribution system design and analysis
  2. Support system planning studies, load analysis, and basic modeling
  3. Review and help update engineering drawings, schematics, and maps
  4. Assist Engineering Dept staff with project work, research, recommendations
  5. Conduct field visits to observe construction, maintenance, and inspections
  6. Help organize engineering records, standards, and technical documentation
  7. Complete or make progress on assigned projects as appropriate
  8. Perform other engineering-related tasks as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Pursuing a degree in an engineering field; preferably power engineering
  2. Completed at least sophomore year by start of internship
  3. Basic understanding of engineering principles
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  6. Must demonstrate strong analytical skills with high level written and verbal communications
  7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  8. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test. 
  9. Must have a valid Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Interest in rural electrical systems and renewable generation
  2. Familiarity with basic electric circuits and power preferred but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Duties are performed inside and outside in inclement weather.
  2. Must be able to perform duties as stated above.
  3. Activities are performed driving, sitting, kneeling, standing, and walking.
